The Janet Crop
100% of The Janet shirt sales are donated to Wipeeverytear.org.
Janet is the second of seven children who all grew up without a father. Their mom worked as a freelancer on the street. Every night she would watch her mother leave the house all made up then return the next morning with money in hand. As she grew older, she saw that as normal and began to do the same. When she was a teenager, Janet was involved with a local organization that gave her a job as a jewelry maker, trained her in practical skills, and counseled her along the way. In spite of those efforts, she became pregnant and locked in an abusive relationship for 3 years. She realized a change was necessary when she began dreaming about her future. The organization helping her referred her to Wipe Every Tear. Janet was embraced and invited into the safety of a Wipe Every Tear home. She works as a jewelry artisan for their TAYO livelihood program and is pursuing a degree in psychology in order to become a doctor. As she looks back on her life, Janet says, “I find it hard to believe that I ever lived that way. I’m a new person now.” She's the first woman in Wipe Every Tear's care to get married. Her children get the opportunity she didn't, seeing a healthy relationship where they are surrounded by empowerment instead of exploitation.
